When your computer sends a print job and nothing happens, the issue could be caused by a stalled print queue, an offline status, a driver problem, or a connection issue. This guide helps you systematically identify and fix the root cause.
Step 1: Check Printer Status
- 1Ensure the printer is powered on and the display shows "Ready" — not an error code.
- 2Check the USB cable or WiFi connection. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the cable, or restarting your router.
- 3On Windows, go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners and check that your printer does not show "Offline."
- 4If it shows offline, right-click the printer icon and select See what's printing, then uncheck Use Printer Offline from the Printer menu.
Step 2: Clear the Print Queue
A stuck print job can block all subsequent jobs. Clearing the queue is often the fastest fix.
- 1Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners and select your printer.
- 2Click Open print queue.
- 3Select all jobs in the queue (Ctrl+A) and delete them.
- 4Restart your printer and try printing again.
Tip: If you cannot delete jobs from the queue, the Print Spooler service may need to be restarted. See Step 3 below.
Step 3: Restart the Print Spooler
- 1Press Windows + R, type
services.msc, and press Enter. - 2Scroll down and find Print Spooler in the list.
- 3Right-click it and select Restart.
- 4After it restarts, try clearing the print queue and printing again.
Step 4: Reinstall the Driver
If the above steps don't resolve the problem, a corrupted driver may be the cause. Uninstall the existing printer driver, download the latest version from the manufacturer's website, and reinstall it fresh. See our full driver installation guide for step-by-step instructions.
